New York - The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) praises Minister
Shimon Peres’ efforts to expedite and reduce the dangers of the
passing of commercial cargo from Gaza into Israel. He stated that
eliminating the congestion by improving inspections at Gaza crossing
points is of tantamount importance toward improving life in the area
and security for Israelis. The Israel National News Service (Arutz 7)
reported that at the World Economic Summit in Davos, Peres announced
that he reached an “understanding” with World Bank officials toward
the funding of state of the art security equipment that permits
expeditious inspection and clearance of items through crossing
points. The cost will be $140 million. He also said he would like to
provide train service from Gaza to the Port of Ashdod, which would
replace the large number of trucks that transport goods to Ashdod,
Israel. (©2005 Zionist Organization of America 01/28/05)
