RAMALLAH, Palestine, December 30, 2003 (IPC + WAFA) - - The Palestinian President Yasser Arafat called to the withdrawal of the Israeli occupying forces from the Palestinian territories an immediate cease of the construction of the Apartheid wall and colonial Jewish settlement activities.

In a radio speech on the day marking the 39th anniversary of the Palestinian revolution, President Arafat asserted on the adherence of the Palestinian people to their inalienable rights, and called the Israeli side to halt its arbitrary measures and offensives on the Palestinian territories, including the construction of the Apartheid Wall along and through the Palestinian territories, the wall being built around holy Jerusalem and the rabid settlement activities.

"We are and have been a peace-seeking nation, and we will continue our adherence to the choice of peace to the entire region, which will give our people the right of self determination, the return of refugees, and the right to establish an independent Palestinian state with Holy Jerusalem as its capital," President Arafat said.

President Arafat also stressed that the resilience of the Palestinian people and its steadfastness in the face of the Israeli war machine proves once again that "our people is determined to stick to its inalienable rights and defend them, and that they are ready to walk down the path of comprehensive and everlasting peace, according to the resolutions of the international legitimacy."

As well, the President saluted all the Arab leaders and their nations, who stood by the Palestinian people and continue their support and efforts to bring justice to the Palestinian people and achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

Speaking about the role of Egypt, President Arafat thanked the Egyptians, represented by President Hosni Mubarak, for their relentless efforts to prevent the spilling of Palestinian blood by the hands of the Israeli occupying forces. He commended them for trying to bring the Palestinian and Israeli sides back to the negotiations table, to start implementing the "Road Map" peace plan under international monitoring, through the Quartet committee and full Arab cooperation.
