Fatah´s armed wing, al-Aksa Martyrs Brigades, has stepped up its campaign against the Palestinian drafters of the Geneva Accord by calling for a general strike in the Gaza Strip on Sunday in protest against the agreement.
Paragraph-1 Contains
In a leaflet distributed in the Gaza Strip, the Brigades denounced co- author of the accord, Yasser Abed Rabbo, and his colleagues as "devils, traitors, and mercenaries." The call for the strike comes as thousands of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip continued, for the second running week, to stage protests against the accord.
Paragraph-2 Contains
"Which devilish logic led them to sign this treasonous agreement?" asked the leaflet. "Who are these devils to sign an on behalf of the Palestinian people an agreement relinquishing the right of return? They are mercenaries and servants of the occupation."
Paragraph-3 Contains
The leaflet urged Palestinians to boycott and pursue all those who were involved in the Geneva Accord, whether by drafting it, signing it, or trying to market it. The flier also called for declaring the date of the signing as a "black day" in the history of the Palestinians and urged residents to raise black flags on their rooftops as an expression of their rejection of the initiative.
Paragraph-4 Contains
Rafik al-Natsheh, the hard-line speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, joined opponents of the accord, saying it contravenes Palestinian national policies and interests. He called a special session of the PLC later this week to discuss the Geneva Accord, pointing out that the council has already issued a statement last week rejecting the agreement.
Paragraph-5 Contains
"We are with the Palestinian people," Natsheh added. "The people have reaffirmed the position of the Palestinian National Council, the Palestinian Authority, and the Palestinian Legislative Council. The people have demonstrated in support of our position, and we are with our people."
Paragraph-6 Contains
Hassan Jibril, chairman of the Popular Committees of Palestinian Refugees in the Central Gaza Strip, said his group was planning to take the Palestinian authors of the agreement to the PA courts. He condemned the Geneva Accord as one of the most dangerous schemes against the Palestinians, saying it was worse than the Balfour Declaration, which promised the Jews a state in Palestine.
Paragraph-7 Contains
At a rally attended by thousands in the Gaza Strip on Friday, Hamas official Amer Abu al-Amarin condemned Abed Rabbo and his team as "traitors of the homeland and the martyrs."
Paragraph-8 Contains
He added: "We are committed to the right of return for the refugees and the right to continue the resistance until liberation. There is no place for the Jews on the land of Palestine, and damn whoever says otherwise. We should deal with the Jews as they were were dealt with at Khaibar [a reference to a Jewish stronghold 150 km from Medina where the Prophet Muhammad is said to have defeated Jewish tribes]. We should kill their warriors and take prisoner their women. There is no alternative to jihad and resistance."
Paragraph-9 Contains
At another rally, Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi also launched a scathing attack on the Palestinian authors of the Geneva Accord. He told thousands of supporters: "The agreement was written with the blood of the martyrs of Izz al-Din al-Kassam [Hamas´s armed wing] and Palestinian children. This is a betrayal of the jihad of the Palestinian people."
Paragraph-10 Contains
Hamas spiritual leader Ahmed Yassin said in response to the agreement: "The Palestinian people have expressed their opinion at the border crossing." He was referring to attacks on some of the Palestinian negotiators at the Rafah border by demonstrators who pelted them with stones and rotten eggs.
