Introduction:
Symbols play an important role in Palestinian society, as the leadership attempts to build a national identity.

Four prominent Palestinian symbols: blood, the stone, the map of "Palestine" that erases all of Israel, and the flag, are brought together in a very striking new video-clip that is part of a new regular broadcast on Palestinian Authority TV, October 30, 2002.

The clip opens with a picture of a beating heart dripping blood. As the image changes, numerous fists grasping rocks are seen growing out from the outline of "Palestine" that erases all of Israel, symbolizing the Palestinians fighting everywhere over the land. Finally, the Palestinian flag appears, first covering all of Israel and then establishing itself above the outline of the land, symbolizing the demise of Israel.
