An immigrant, likely an American, may be guaranteed a spot on the
list of the Jewish Home party’s Knesset Member candidates.
Long-time national religious MK Zevulun Orlev wrote the party’s
census committee chairman Rabbi Daniel Tropper Tuesday that he
supports reserving a place for a younger person and an immigrant.
A large number of immigrants supporting the Jewish Home (Bayit
Yehudi) are Americans, and the party has invited popular show hosts
Ari Abramowitz and Jeremy Gimpel, of Tuesday Night Live fame, to join.
Orlev noted that despite immigrants´ interest in the party, they are
not directly represented. He noted that guaranteeing a spot for
a “new immigrant” would underscore the party’s principle of
encouraging aliyah to Israel.
“Immigrants have an important role in Israeli society,” he wrote,
adding that the Jewish Home party is the “natural” home for national
religious immigrants.
Orlev noted that immigrants play an important role in Israel society.
Among American immigrants to Israel are High Court Justice Neil
Hendel, Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer, and former Labor
Court president Steve Adler.
On Monday, Yoni Shetbon, Ayelet Shaked and Amiad Taub, who are
contending for a spot on the Jewish Home party’s list for the next
Knesset, sent a letter to Rabbi Tropper to protest what they
termed “pushing young people out of the party.” (IsraelNationalNews ©
