Five Israelis were wounded on Saturday night by rocks that were
thrown by Arab residents of east Jerusalem at an Israeli bus
traveling to the Western Wall.
Army Radio reported that all five were evacuated to local hospitals
in light condition. The report said that the incident began when
Border Police arrested two Arabs on suspicion of attacking Jews in
the Damascus Gate.
At about 1:00 a.m. local time, two Arab residents of east Jerusalem
attacked a Jew near the Damascus Gate. Magen David Adom paramedics
who were called to the scene determined that he did not need medical
treatment, and Border Police officers arrested the attackers, one of
whom was a minor.
Following the arrest of the attackers, angry Arabs began throwing
rocks at the paramedics as well as at the bus.
Rock attacks in Jerusalem, as well as in Judea and Samaria, have been
on the rise in recent months. Such attacks have proven fatal in the
past.
Arabs have regularly targeted the Jerusalem Light Rail in their rock
attacks. In May, Arabs threw rocks as the train rolled by the Beit
Hanina neighborhood, located in the northern section of the capital.
Muhamad Shuman is currently being held in custody in connection with
the March stabbing of a 19-year-old female soldier aboard the train
as it passed through the city´s northern neighborhood of Pisgat Ze´ev.
A few months ago, residents of Jewish communities in the eastern part
of the Gush Etzion Regional Council protested the ongoing rock
attacks, blocking one of the intersections in the area for several
hours. (IsraelNationalNews © 2011 08/05/12)
