Palestinian Media Watch reveals Fatah-run camp in Jericho named after
Dalal Mughrabi, a Palestinian terrorist who led one of Israel´s most
lethal attacks, killing 37 people on a bus in 1978 • Jericho district
governor tells camp participants that Mughrabi should be "a beacon
for us."
Palestinian terrorist Dalal Mughrabi, who in 1978 masterminded one of
Israel´s most lethal terror attacks, killing 37 people — 12 of them
children — on a bus, has been hailed as a hero and role model time
and again on the Palestinian street.
Now, the Palestinian Authority has found yet another way to honor her
memory, by naming a children´s camp in Jericho after her.
Just two years ago, Israel and the U.S. exerted great pressure on the
authority not to hold an official ceremony marking the anniversary of
the 1978 attack. Despite international criticism, Fatah proceeded
with its plans and held the ceremony and named a square in Ramallah
after Mughrabi.
Several other places throughout the West Bank and Gaza have also been
named after the terrorist, including schools, sports fields, streets
and more.
The existence of the Sisters of Dalal Mughrabi children´s camp in
Jericho was first revealed two weeks ago by Palestinian Media Watch,
which studies Palestinian society and monitors Palestinian media
publications.
The organization found that in an article published in the PA-
affiliated Al-Hayat al-Jadida newspaper, it was stated that the
Sisters of Dalal Mughrabi camp was organized by Fatah, which is
headed by PA President Mahmoud Abbas.
Among other things, the article also stated that Jericho District
Governor Majed Al-Fatiani met with participants of the camp and
reportedly told them: "It is our national obligation to be faithful
to those before us who gave and sacrificed for Palestine, and they
should be a beacon for us in our activities and in guarding the
achievements and capabilities of our people."
Following the revelation of the camp´s existence, MK Danny Danon
(Likud) said he planned to ask Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to
stop the transfer of funds to the PA.
"The [Palestinian] Authority is funding terrorism education from an
early age and is once again showing its true face," said Danon. "The
Palestinians want to establish a terror state in Israel´s backyard
and naming a children´s camp after a terrorist is proof of this."
