In Israel, Hillary has lots of explaining to do (NEW YORK POST) Abby W. Schachter / Blog 07/17/12)

Our wind-blown looking Secretary of State landed in Israel today
to "brief" Israeli leaders about more than a year´s worth
of "upheaval" among Israel´s neighbors which is euphemistically
called the Arab Spring but should at this point be renamed the
Islamist Death Spiral.
"[Hillary] Clinton wanted to have "a broader strategic conversation
about more than a year of now of great change and transformation
across the region," a top State Department official told reporters.
Clinton is supposedly wants to "compare strategic notes" with our
best ally in the Middle East and bring the Israelis up to speed on
what the US is doing to end the massacres in Syria and how the effort
to hold back Iran´s march toward a nuclear bomb is going. But of
course, Clinton wouldn´t be visiting Israel without also berating the
Israelis with "peace process" talk as well.
As a State Department source put it, "Obviously, every day that goes
by where there is not a peace agreement is a day, that leaves us
unsatisfied...Of course we would have liked to have been coming on
this trip to sign a peace deal. We would have liked to have done that
two years ago," he said.
"The fact that we have been unable to do so is a testament to the
difficulty of the challenge. But the fact that we´re still at it is a
testament to just how important the issue is to us, and to her
Obssessed is more like it. And unrealistic is also more to the point.
What isn´t to the point is all this talk about how much the US and
the Obama administration is doing for Israel. Instead of comparing
notes and briefing Israeli leaders, Clinton would do well to spend
some time explaining (and better yet apologizing for) Obama´s and her
department´s own consistent cold-shouldered snubbing of the Jewish
The most recent example was the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum where
Israel wasn´t even invited to participate. This despite the sadly
obvious fact that Israelis and Jews are so often the victims of
terror and a world leader in the fight against terrorism as a
bipartisan group of Senators pointed out to Clinton in a letter of
The Undersecretary of State who spoke at the event didn´t even bother
to list Israel among the countries victimized by terrorism.
Will Clinton be apologizing for this omission when she "briefs" the
Given the State Department´s poor response to Israel´s complete
omission from the forum, don´t bet on it.
Beyond the counterterrorism rejection, Clinton can explain how the
Obama administration can possibly believe claims by Egypt´s new
Islamic masters about maintaining the peace accords with Egypt that
they have already abrogated.
Clinton can work on convincing the Israelis that somehow ignoring and
limply responding to the Syrian regime´s bloody rampage is best for
Israel and for regional stability.
And we haven´t even gotten to Iran yet.
It is an election year, President Obama´s record on Israel is lousy
and Hillary is in Jerusalem. Instead of briefing she might try
getting on bended knee and apologizing. (Copyright 2011 NYP
