Iran’s Fars News Agency (FNA) reportedly fabricated an interview with Egyptian President-elect Mohammed Morsi, quoting him on a range of contentious topics, from the Camp David treaty with Israel to diplomatic relations between Egypt and Iran, Morsi’s spokesman said Monday night.

Morsi claims that the FNA, a front for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), simply fabricated the interview.

Morsi “did not give any interview to Fars and everything this agency has published is baseless,” Morsi’s spokesman said.

The President-elect ostensibly told FNA that he was in favor of strengthening ties between Iran and Egypt. “The issue will create a strategic balance in the region,” the news agency quoted Morsi as saying.

“It is part of my agenda” to develop the relationship further, according to the interview.

“We will revise the Camp David treaty,” he reportedly went on to state.

Iran´s official state-run news agency, IRNA, was also quick to cast doubt on the interview.

The incident provides the latest example of how the ongoing power struggle in the Iranian establishment has apparently pitted IRNA, which is pro-President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, against Fars, which is said to be affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
