Those who oppose the decision to demolish Jewish homes in Judea and
Samaria must stay focused on the real problem, says Rabbi Shmuel
Eliyahu, the chief rabbi of Tzfat.
The soldiers and police who will carry out the eviction are just the
enforcers, he told Arutz Sheva. “The focus must be on the root of
what must be fixed, that is, the court that calls itself the High
Court of Justice – despite being neither of those things,” he said.
“The court takes a strong hand when it comes to people who respect
the state, but is weak when it comes to Arabs who build tens of
thousands of buildings in the Galilee without permits, on state land
and privately owned land,” he added.
“Neither the police nor the State Prosecution enforce the law there,
due solely to the fact that those involved are Arab,” Rabbi Eliyahu
charged. “It is a failure on the part of the legal system… The
struggle must be focused there.”
Rabbi Eliyahu spent the Sabbath in Beit El, where he met with
families that face eviction from their homes. The families he met
were united in their intent to abide by an agreement reached with the
government, he said.
The Supreme Court has been criticized for its decision on Beit El
homes in particular. The court ordered homes demolished without
hearing the claims of the homeowners.
The eviction is scheduled to begin on Tuesday. The Defense Ministry
will bring trucks to assist in the move from homes to caravans
stationed near the entrance to the town. (IsraelNationalNews © 2012
