Jerusalem clashes over Ulpana eviction reach settlements as teens
attempt to block road, protest near military base against government
plans. Border Guard disperses protestors
Clashes that broke out earlier on Wednesday over the settlement
regulation bill vote failure and the prospected eviction of five
houses in the Ulpana neighborhood of Beit El, continued on Wednesday
night in the west Bank.
Some 30 teens stood by a road near the Havat Gilad outpost in order
to protest and clashed with Border Guard officers.
The Border Guard stated that the teens attempted to ignite a fire in
a nearby field and tried to block the road, but when security forces
arrived at the scene, dispersing them with among other things, stun
grenades, they dispersed and the road once again opened to traffic
within a short period of time.
Itai Zar of Havat Gilad denied the report and said that "there was
reliable information claiming that the Border Guard intended to carry
out demolitions on the hill.
Many residents were called to the scene and there was a confrontation
at the entrance, because of the abnormal number of Border Guard
officers who entered the outpost. There were a few stun grenades
which caused one of the women to panic. We are trying to calm the
atmosphere not ignite it further."
After attempts to block the road ended, the teens moved on to the
Ephraim Spatial Brigade base near Kdumim, where they called on the
soldiers to refuse to obey orders and called out against the
government and the expected eviction.
The protestors were singing and dancing at the gates of the base.
Police maintained order at the scene. (Copyright 2012 © Yedioth
