Palestinian in his early 20s attacks officer with 20-centimeter-long nail at entrance to Cave of Patriarchs • Second officer shoots attacker in the stomach • Terrorist resisted efforts to restrain him "because he didn´t complete his objective."

A Border Police officer was in light to moderate condition on Monday night after he was attacked by a Palestinian who stabbed him in the upper part of his body with a long nail, near the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron.

The terrorist, reported to be in his early 20s, approached the checkpoint at the entrance to the Cave of the Patriarchs, where Border Police officers were stationed. When he was close enough to one of the officers, the Palestinian stabbed him in the head.

One of the wounded officer´s friends, who noticed what was happening, opened fire at the terrorist, who was hit in his stomach and fell to the ground. The Border Police officer was treated at the scene by a Magen David Adom crew and a rescue team from Judea and Samaria, and later transferred to the hospital. The terrorist, who was seriously wounded, also received treatment at the scene.

Police Chief Superintendent Shenaan Taliyeh, a regiment commander of the Cave of the Patriarchs in the Judea and Samaria Border Police Battalion, said on Monday: "The terrorist attacked one of the officers with a nail measuring about 20 centimeters. Another officer fired a single bullet at him and he fell. Border Guard officers acted firmly and professionally."

Hanan Meir, an MDA paramedic who was at the scene of the incident said, "when we got to the terrorist he was resisting attempts to be restrained because he hadn´t completed his objective. We were forced to hold him down and ties him up so that we could treat him and put him in an ambulance."
