Nobel Prize winner Prof. Yisrael Aumann told hunger strikers in Jerusalem Sunday that “it would be an honor” for Cabinet ministers to be fired by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu if they vote to save the homes in the Ulpana neighborhood of Beit El.
Paragraph-1 Contains
Prime Minister Netanyahu has instructed Likud ministers not to support a bill that would legalize the homes, which the High Court ordered to be destroyed after Peace Now convinced the justices that the land was not legally bought by Jews.
Paragraph-2 Contains
Fifteen families live in the five houses involved, all of them approved by the government more than 10 years ago. The Prime Minister has argued that passing the bill would cause Israel heavy damage in the eyes of the international community. He has proposed talking apart the houses in a way that will make it possible to rebuild them several hundreds of yards away.
Paragraph-3 Contains
Prof. Aumann told the hunger strikers that evicting the families “would endanger not only the Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria but also all of Israel." He said it is a “humanitarian and moral” issue to keep the families in their homes.
Paragraph-4 Contains
“The true Jewish settlers always were in Judea and Samaria, not Tel Aviv and Gedera [a town near Rehovot, south of Tel Aviv]. This [expulsion] endangers all of us even if the danger does not occur in our generation. The expulsion will influence our grandchildren."
Paragraph-5 Contains
In response to hunger strikers’ statements that Cabinet ministers are afraid of being fired if they vote for the bill, Prof. Aumann answered, “Afraid of Netanyahu? It would be an honor to be fired by Bibi. They [ministers voting for the bill - ed.] would be saving the Land of Israel. It would be an honor to be fired over the vote.”
Paragraph-6 Contains
The Nobel Prize winner called for a fight against any expulsion but said that no soldier should be harmed. (IsraelNationalNews © 2012 06/03/12)
