Two new justices were sworn in to the High Court of Justice on
Thursday.
Uri Shoham and Professor Daphna Barak-Erez took up the positions of
outgoing justices Asher Dan Grunis and Eliezer Rivlin.
Supreme Court President Asher Grunis said the addition of the new
judges completed the human mosaic of the court´s makeup in terms of
background, noting that the court now has judges from the justice
system, private law, the public sector and now academia as well.
Grunis added that the addition of new judges will help the court meet
its heavy workload, but said that finding a solution for the work
would require more creative thinking.
President Shimon Peres said at the official swearing in ceremony that
there should be no tolerance for any form of violence, and that
education on values must be deepened.
The state, he added, bears responsibility for giving a legal response
to Israel´s migrant problem. (© 1995-2011, The Jerusalem Post
