An Israeli security guard shot a Palestinian man in the stomach during clashes on Saturday between settlers and Palestinians outside the West Bank village of Urif.

The injured man was evacuated to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus in serious but stable condition.

Palestinian sources claimed the Palestinians were extinguishing brushfires lit by Israelis from the neighboring settlement of Yitzhar when the security detail opened fired.

IDF and Border Police forces arrived on the scene to restore order.

Last week, settlers from Yitzhar were filmed shooting at Palestinians after fighting broke out between the two parties. One Palestinian was hospitalized with a gunshot wound. The Israeli human rights NGO B’Tselem published the footage on YouTube. (© 2012 THE TIMES OF ISRAEL 05/26/12)
