Russian president to meet with Netanyahu, Peres; unveil monument honoring Jewish Red Army soldiers who fought Nazis

Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit Israel at the end of June, this following talks between high-level officials in Moscow and Jerusalem.

The Yedioth Ahronoth daily reported Friday that the exact date of Putin´s 24-hour visit has not been set, but it will likely take place during the last week of June.

During the snap visit, Putin will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres.

Peres, the report said, will host a special ceremony saluting Russia´s role in liberating the death camps at the end of World War Two.

While in Israel, the Russian leader is expected to visit Netanya, where he and Netanyahu will unveil a monument honoring Jewish Red Army soldiers who fought in World War II.

The monument, which was erected on Netanya´s beach, was designed by three renowned Russian artists in the shape of a labyrinth. (Copyright 2012 © Yedioth Internet 05/25/12)
