Two illegal aliens hailing from Africa were charged on Thursday with raping and attempting to sodomize a 19-year-old girl in a south Tel Aviv parking lot.

Ahmed Abdullah, 37, from Sudan, and Kidesh Takla, 20, from Eritrea were indicted at the Tel Aviv District Court.

Abdullah is charged with rape, while Takla is charged with attempted sodomy.

According to the indictment, the two men followed the woman out of a club in south Tel Aviv and observed her being mugged by an unknown assailant.

As she was bending over to pick up her ID card which the mugger had discarded, the defendants assaulted her, dragged her into a nearby parking lot, and proceeded to rape her.

In the middle of the assault police officers in a passing patrol car realized something was amiss and pointed their spotlight at the scene, prompting the two to flee the site.

Police tracked the pair down and arrested them a short while later.

The indictment further states that during his interrogation, Abdullah had threatened one police investigator.

"Un-cuff me and let me show you what I can do to you," he told him. "I remember your face well. I´ll take care of you when I get out."

Abdullah has therefore also been charged with intimidation and hindering a police officer in the line of duty.

The prosecution has requested remand for both men until all proceedings against them have been completed, citing incriminating evidence which includes a DNA sample from one of the defendants.

The indictment comes one day after over 1,000 people attended a rally in southern Tel Aviv demanding Israel´s government deport illegal aliens from the country.

After the rally some protesters smashed windows, lit garbage cans on fire, and damaged a car that had three illegal aliens in it. No one was hurt in the incident. On Thursday police arrested 12 people on suspicion of attacking the vehicle, and running riot.

Left-wing politicians and activists used the incident to mount calls for an investigation into several nationalist lawmakers who spoke at the rally for incitement.

However, witnesses say the vast majority of protesters who attended the rally both arrived and departed peacefully.

Nonetheless, Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin - who acknowledged the serious illegal immigration problem Israel faces - called on lawmakers to "guard their words" and instead focus on formulating a practical solution.

Eilat Mayor Yitzhak Halevi on Thursday pressed the government to make good on its promises to complete the Sinai border fence, construct a detention center for illegal aliens, and begin deportations.

Meanwhile, nationalist activists MK Ben Ari (National Union) and Baruch Marzel have begun a program for residents in south Tel Aviv to take self-defense courses.

The classes are being organized in response to requests by residents of the neighborhood who have been frightened by recent violence committed by illegal African aliens in the neighborhood. (IsraelNationalNews © 2012 05/24/12)
