Top Israeli officials signed the Global Entry "trusted traveler
program" with U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano
Sunday in Jerusalem during a meeting with Foreign Minister Avigdor
Lieberman.
The program allows Israelis who travel frequently to the United
States to expedite processing upon entry to the country. It is a
program similar to one that Israel has had in place at Ben Gurion
International Airport for some time.
Napolitano said the document was “part of the United States´ strong
and enduring partnership with Israel, dedicated to ensuring the
safety and security of both our countries.”
During her visit to the Jewish State, Napolitano also met in
Jerusalem with a broad spectrum of national security officials.
Among those from the defense establishment who spoke with the US
Homeland Security chief were Interior Minister Eli Yishai, Public
Security Minister Yitzchak Aharonovich, Israel Police Commissioner
Yochanan Danino and National Cyber Security Bureau director Dr.
Eviatar Matania.
On Monday, she also delivered an address on her department´s
collaboration with international partners in their efforts to combat
terrorism and facilitate trade and travel at Israel´s Home Front
Command and its International Institute for Counter-Terrorism.
