Families of Arab prisoners in Israel who are refusing to eat
demonstrated Thursday at offices of the International Committee of
the Red Cross in Ramallah.
The protest in the Palestinian Authority capital of Ramallah included
demonstrators who waved signs and flags.
Demonstrators blocked the entrance to the ICRC building and prevented
its employees from entering the facility as a means of drawing
international attention to the prisoners´ cause.
The protesters said they blame the Red Cross and the United Nations
for cooperating with Israel against the striking inmates in the
prison.
The prisoners are demanding the right to receive education, more
family visits, an end to solitary confinement, an end to “repression”
and an end to night searches, according to the Palestinian Center for
Human Rights (PCHR).
In addition, several other inmates have been fasting for an extended
period to protest being held under administrative detention without
charges or trials.
The Islamic Jihad terrorist organization threatened this week that
the death of any hunger striker in prison will touch off a third
intifada. Many of those who are striking are members of the terrorist
organization. (IsraelNationalNews © 2012 05/10/12)
