The Lehava anti-assimilation organization has launched a new
campaign, which features a fake invitation to a wedding between a
Jewish woman and an Arab man. The campaign is aimed at raising
awareness of the dangers of assimilation.
Lehava chairman Bentzi Gopstein told Arutz Sheva on Wednesday that
the campaign is purposely meant to shock Jewish parents.
“We distributed the fake invitation across the country, in Judea and
Samaria, in girls’ schools and in communities throughout the
country,” Gopstein said. “Unfortunately, more and more religious
girls meet Arabs during their national service and fall into
undesired relationships. Just two weeks ago we tried to rescue a girl
who married an Arab whom she met while performing national service in
Haifa. Unfortunately we were unable to help her, and she gave birth
to a son named Muhammad.”
He added that after the organization distributed the fake invitation,
it received dozens of phone calls from parents and girls who need
help. “We are repeating once again: do not send girls to national
service with the Arabs and do not let them work with Arabs. We do not
make public all the assimilation stories that are known to us, and
there are many.”
Last month Lehava was able to locate a young Jewish woman and her one-
year-old baby, two years after she ran away from her home with an
Arab boyfriend.
The 25-year-old woman, originally from Jerusalem, left her parents’
home two years ago after meeting an Arab man at her workplace. She
ran away with the man to an Arab village in northern Israel, where
she gave birth about a year ago.
Her rescue was made possible because, as the holiday of Passover
approached, she began to miss her parents and the festive mood in
their home.
In February, a 15-year-old missing Jewish teen from Lod was found in
an Arab village, a few weeks after running away with an Arab man.
Gopstein, who has said the Knesset must pass a law that prohibits
seduction of a minor, in order to fight the phenomenon of
assimilation, told Arutz Sheva that Lehaha deliberately made the fake
invitation shocking.
“We wrote Al Quds instead of Jerusalem at the top of the invitation
and said that the wedding is taking place in Ramallah,” he said. “Our
intention is to shock parents. To date we’ve received very good
responses.” (IsraelNationalNews © 2012 05/10/12)
