Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Kadima leader Shaul Mofaz have presented to their factions a three-page agreement that they have signed, regarding Kadima´s entry into the government.

Both sides agreed that "historic challenges" facing Israel require a wide government.

The document includes a joint commitment to pass a law that will regulate an "egalitarian and fair" system for sharing the burden of IDF service among all parts of the population. Clear benchmark dates for gradually larger enlistment of hareidim are to be set. A team headed by Kadima will formulate the bill that will replace the Tal Law.

The sides also agree to work together to change the current system of elections and governance in Israel. The current system will be replaced by one that enhances government stability and will make it more possible for the elected prime minister to complete his term in office. No prime minister in Israel has served a full term for decades.

Mofaz will continue to head the Knesset´s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. In addition, his party will head the Finance Committee and one other permanent Knesset committee.

Mofaz will become Vice Prime Minister and Minister without Portfolio or Minister of Home Front Defense. He will be a member of the inner cabinet known as the Octet – which will therefore become the Nonet. (IsraelNationalNews © 2012 05/08/12)
