A violent confrontation took place outside the community of Beit El
Tuesday morning between police and a delegation of radical left-wing
Meretz leaders and activists.
The leftists had come to demonstrate against the fact that five
buildings in the Givat HaUlpana neighborhood are still standing, one
year after the state´s representatives gave a commitment to the High
Court to tear them down.
Former MK Mosi Raz was quoted as saying, "The settlers are giving us
a lesson in criminal behavior, and the government is crushing justice
and the law. Our cry is that of the people who oppose mockery of the
rule of law and wasting public money in the territories."
A representative of the Beit El local authority, Menachem Lev,
approached the protesters and invited the Meretz Knesset Members to
tour the Givat HaUlpana neighborhood. However, the activists greeted
him with catcalls and shouts like "Go back to Israel!" and "You are
criminals!" (IsraelNationalNews © 2012 05/01/12)
