Jewish News One reported that American clothing retailer Urban
Outfitters is in hot water for selling a yellow T-shirt with a patch
over the breast pocket that looks like a designer’s idea of how to
improve that old fashioned yellow Star of David that Jews were forced
to wear by the Nazis.
Make it blue, for one thing, yellow is soooo 1941.
A spokesman for Yad Vashem said the design was “in bad taste.”
The Anti-Defamation League called the shirt “extremely distasteful
and offensive.”
Urban Outfitters is no stranger to controversy, and to date has
offended African Americans, Mexicans, and the Irish.
Jewish News One notes that in 2004, the ADL complained about another
T-shirt which they said reinforced negative stereotypes about Jews
and money. the shirt read “Everyone loves a Jewish girl,” with images
of dollar signs and hearts around the line.
