The organization’s New York headquarters will house a public display
about the trial of ‘Final Solution’ architect Adolf Eichmann
As Israel prepares to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day, the United
Nations is readying an exhibit about Adolf Eichmann, one of the
central figures in planning the genocide.
Thursday marks the opening of “With Me Here Are Six Million Accusers:
The Eichmann Trial in Jerusalem,” which will run through May 28 in
the Visitors Lobby of the UN headquarters in New York. The first part
of the title comes from the opening statement delivered by Eichmann’s
chief prosecutor, Gideon Hausner, after the war criminal’s capture by
Mossad agents in Argentina.
Hausner’s daughter, Tamar Hausner-Raveh, will attend the exhibit’s
opening, as will Ron Prosor, Israel’s representative at the UN, and
Yossi Peled, an Israeli general and Knesset member whose father was
killed at Auschwitz.
Curated by Yad Vashem, the exhibit will be accompanied April 23 by a
panel discussion at the UN, where speakers will include Peled, Elie
Wiesel and Gideon Hausner’s son, Amos. Mark Ellis, the head of the
International Bar Association, will examine the trial’s legal
ramifications, as will Emory University historian Deborah Lipstadt,
the author of “The Eichmann Trial.”
Next month marks the 50th anniversary of Eichmann’s execution in
Israel. (© 2012 THE TIMES OF ISRAEL 04/18/12)
