Israel´s Shin Bet security reported on Tuesday that two Palestinians released in the Gilad Shalit prisoner swap have been identified and linked to terrorist activity.

Some 1,077 prisoners were released in a prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hamas to secure the release of abducted Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit last year.

One of the men is Daoud Hilu, 21, from the Amari refugee camp near Ramallah. In late March, the Judea military court found Hilu guilty of attempted trade in military equipment.

According to the Shin Bet, Hilu began this illegal activity a month after his release in December 2011, as part of the second phase of the Shalit swap. Following his trial, he will be returned to prison and serve the entire term he was sentenced to in 2010 – 17 months. In addition, Hilu was ordered to pay a fine of NIS 2,000.

Another man released in the deal, and identified by the Shin Bet, is Omar Abu Snina, a Hamas activist from Hebron who was deported to the Gaza Strip. Abu Snina recruited operatives in the West Bank with the aim of planning and executing a kidnapping, according to the Shin Bet.

The Shin Bet intercepted a memory card sent by Snina to operatives in the West Bank, detailing how the abduction should be carried out. "We should try to obtain resources, weapons and ready-to-use explosives, but must do so carefully and through the proper channels. We can obtain the enemy´s weaponry even if we have to use cold weapons first," he wrote.

Abu Snina also told operatives to report execution of the attacks using coded messages. "You must not talk openly unless speaking face to face,” ordered Snina.

On Monday, reports indicated that over the last few months, Hamas has been sending large amounts of money to prisoners released in the Gilad Shalit swap, currently living in the West Bank. In some cases money was transferred to Palestinian villages over the Green Line, and neighborhoods in East Jerusalem. There were also cases reported of money being sent into Israel proper.

Since the completion of the Gilad Shalit deal, 8 prisoners released as part of the agreement have been taken into custody again for participating in terrorist activity. (© Copyright 2012 Ha´aretz 04/18/12)
