Thousands attend ceremony at West Bank settlement evacuated during
2005 pullout. Minister Edelstein: We´re working to resettle Homesh
"Our justice system is rotten to the core; it cannot tell the
difference between right and wrong. Let´s hope it receives its
judgment from above," Rabbi Elyakim Levanon said Tuesday during a
ceremony held at the site of the former Homesh settlement in Samaria,
which was evacuated in 2005 during Israel´s unilateral withdrawal
from Gaza and parts of the West Bank.
During the ceremony, Minister Yuli Edelstein (Likud) and Knesset
Member Danny Danon (Likud) were among the thousands who called on the
government to resettle Homesh.
Referring the justice system, Levanon, the chief rabbi of the Samaria
Regional Council, said, "May this evil be removed from above. This
distorted system works backwards and hurts individuals only because
they want to do good. It does not define right or wrong and therefore
makes huge errors. This system incites and stirs up strife in the
nation. We must fight it."
Minister Edelstein told those on hand that the Knesset and government
are "working" on resettling Homesh. "Some are promoting it and others
are holding the process back. I hope that eventually we´ll be able to
return to Homesh," he said.
MK Danon added: "The thousands who came here show that the people
want to return to this place. I call on Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu to fire (Defense Minister Ehud) Barak over what happened at
the Machpelah house in Hebron."
Danon was referring to the recent evacuation of Jewish settlers from
a house in Hebron which they claimed to have purchased legally from
Palestinians.
Moshe Har Melech, whose son resided in Homesh and was killed in a
shooting attack, said, "What happened here is absurd. This is Israeli
territory and there is no reason why Jews should not return (to
Homesh)."
Shomron Regional Council head Gershon Mesika said, "This large crowd
proves that we must return to Homesh. This is Israeli territory. The
pullout was a mistake and it must be rectified quickly." (Copyright
