Twenty-five MKs have signed a petition calling for a law that would prevent the Supreme Court from continuing to order demolitions in Judea and Samaria.

Deputy Knesset speaker MK Danny Danon (Likud) called Sunday to assemble the Knesset prior to the next scheduled session, in order to vote on the measure. “The Knesset has the power to change the one- sided approach guiding the Supreme Court when it comes to Judea and Samaria once and for all,” he said.

“The Likud will not expel Jews,” Danon declared.

The bill Danon proposes be made law as soon as possible would put an end to the use of forcible expulsion to solve Arab land claims. Instead, if Arabs claimed ownership of land in Judea and Samaria on which Israelis were living with authorization from the state, the Israeli residents would remain and the Arab plaintiffs would be given financial compensation.

The bill notes that compensation would be given only in a case where the plaintiffs could prove ownership.

“The Supreme Court is preventing the government from doing its job,” Danon accused. With the new law, he said, “We will prevent the expulsion of Jews from their homes, and we won’t get another verdict [like those regarding] Migron or the eviction from the Machpelah House.”

“Likud was elected in order to build, not to destroy. We will not allow Peace Now and the rest of the extreme left to see pictures of Jews expelling Jews,” Danon stated.

The bill has supporters not only in Likud, but also in Ichud Leumi, Habayit Hayehudi, Shas, United Torah Judaism, and Kadima. Support has increased in recent days, following a last-minute decision to expel Jews from the Machpelah House in Hevron. Jews were expelled despite having legally purchased the home after Hevron’s Arab mayor questioned the sale. (IsraelNationalNews © 2012 04/08/12)
