A British High Court cancelled Saturday a deportation order for
Sheikh Raed Salah, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Israel’s
Northern Branch, saying that the order was given on the basis of
false information.
Salah was arrested at the hotel he was staying at after returning
from a lecture that he delivered in Leceister on June 29, 2011.
In September, a British High Court determined that Salah´s arrest was
illegal, and as such, Salah was eligible to receive compensation from
the state.
Although Salah was permitted to leave the country, he has claimed
ever since that his arrest is unjustified and has expressly stated on
multiple occasions that he intends to fight the edicts in court.
On Saturday, the Islamic Movement in Israel’s Northern Branch
announced that Salah´s appeal against his deportation and ban order
was successful, with Upper Immigration Tribunal judge CMG Ockelton
saying that the order wasn´t supported based on sufficient evidence.
Ockelton also reportedly said that the decision to deport Salah was
reached based on faulty information, which led to Home Secretary
Theresa May to sign it.
A joint statement released by the Israeli group with the U.K. Muslim
community described the decision as a victory against the "Zionist
lobby," who they said worked to deport Salah from Britain. (©
