A Jewish man attacked by an axe-wielding Arab terrorist Monday was
saved by the black brimmed hat he was wearing, his brother says.
Yosef Weisfisch told an interviewer later in the day on Channel 2
News that the hat brim “created an air pocket between his head and
the point where the axe struck.”
Miraculously, the man´s injuries were surprisingly light, considering
the force of the attack. Doctors at Jerusalem´s Hadassah Ein Kerem
Medical Center told journalists the victim suffered a broken skull
but no internal bleeding.
The attack occurred at the Shechem Gate to the Old City of Jerusalem
as the victim was on his way home in the morning after praying at the
Kotel (Western Wall).
"He plans to keep walking in the same place as soon as he recovers,”
his brother affirmed, adding the 59-year-old victim hopes to be
discharged by the hospital on Tuesday.
Police have launched an investigation into the attack, and a massive
hunt for the would-be murderer is underway.
Three weeks ago, a young female soldier was stabbed by an Arab
attacker on the Jerusalem light rail as the train traveled through
the Pisgat Ze´ev neighborhood heading towards the center of the city.
The perpetrator was tracked down and caught due because hey hurled
the weapon out the window of the bus he took to flee to a relative´s
home, hoping to hide from authorities for a while.
