A few days after shooting, staff members are sent offensive emails; prosecutor launches investigation

Only days after Mohamed Merah gunned down a rabbi and three children at Ozar Hatorah, the Jewish school in Toulouse, staff members there have received threatening emails and phone calls.

Michel Jacques, the city prosecutor, said an investigation to track down the sender has begun.

The email messages were signed, “The avenger of France and the French people,” according to AFP. They were sent to a few members of staff at the school on Friday. The shooting attack took place the previous Monday.

The emails were forwarded to French authorities for their offensive and anti-Semitic tone.

Jean-Paul Amoyelle, head of the Ozar Hatorah networks in France, said he feared further attacks.

On Tuesday, a 12-year-old Jewish student was attacked 100 yards from an Ozar Hatorah school in Paris, reportedly by a gang that shouted such anti-Semitic epithets as “dirty Jew” while beating him. He was not seriously injured.

Jewish graves have also been vandalized in Paris. (© 2012 THE TIMES OF ISRAEL 03/28/12)
