Nothing says thank-you like flowers.
So on Thursday, Shilo resident Shirel Bleicher personally delivered a
bouquet of red and white carnations to the Jerusalem office of Peace
Now.
He also gave the group a certificate of appreciation from Dani Dayan,
who heads the Council of Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip.
Dayan could not help but note the irony of how events played out this
week.
In 2011 Peace Now petitioned the High Court of Justice against
unauthorized homes in the Shiloh settlement and the adjacent Shvut
Rachel outpost. It had hoped the court would force the state halt the
construction and demolish the homes.
Instead the state announced it planned to zone the area, a move that
retroactively legalized all unauthorized homes in Shilo as well as in
Shvut Rachel.
On Wednesday, the Civil Administration advanced the zoning plan.
"Each time they [Peace Now] go to the court, it turns out in our
favor," Dayan said. "I decided to be courteous and send them flowers."
On the certificate, he wrote: "Thank you kindly for your help toward
the approval of building plans for Shiloh and Shvut Rachel. It was
only your petition which finally pushed the state to do this."
He added that the council would consider naming a street in Shiloh
after Peace Now.
Hagit Ofran of Peace Now, said she was not in the office at the time,
but found the flowers by the door.
It was nice bouquet, she said, and added that she placed it in a vase
in the office.
"I appreciated the gesture, it was very cute. We are glad they have a
sense of humor," she said. (© 1995-2011, The Jerusalem Post 02/24/12)
