For the first time in seven years, the UN Security Council has
condemned terror attacks against Israeli citizens.
According to a report on Channel 10 News, the Security Council
condemned on Thursday the terror attack on the Israeli embassy in New
Delhi, India, as well as the attempted attack on the embassy in
Tbilisi, Georgia.
The attack in New Delhi seriously wounded Tal Yehoshua-Koren, the
wife of the Defense Ministry’s attaché to India.
The Council members strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in New
Delhi and Tbilisi, the report said, and reiterated that terrorism, in
all its forms, is one of the greatest threats to peace and security
and that any act of terrorism is a crime that cannot be justified.
The statement also condemned the “violence against diplomatic and
consular representatives.”
Channel 10 reported that the Council also stressed the need to
prosecute the perpetrators, organizers, sponsors and supporters of
acts of terrorism, and called on all nations, under their commitment
to international law and to relevant resolutions of the Security
Council, to cooperate with the Israeli authorities on the subject.
The condemnation was welcomed by Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Ron
Prosor, who just last week lodged a complaint with UN Secretary
General Ban Ki-moon over the terror campaign which Israel said Iran
was behind.
“The breaking of the silence of the Security Council is being heard
around the world - from the hospital room of wounded Tal, to every
corridor of every embassy which is under the threat of Iranian
terrorism,” Prosor told Channel 10. “The unequivocal condemnation of
the Security Council represents a significant step in the fight
against terrorism. For seven years the Council did not make its voice
heard against terrorist attacks directed against Israel and its
citizens. I hope that the Council will now take action to prevent
such terrorist acts.” (IsraelNationalNews © 2012 02/24/12)
