Iran is ready to cooperate in identifying the bombers in Thailand,
state-run IRNA quoted Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast
as saying Wednesday, after four Iranian nationals were arrested in
Bangkok.
Mehmanparast "expressed Iran’s readiness to cooperate in identifying
the culprits behind Thailand explosions [sic] and to introduce them
to the international community," according to IRNA.
Mehmanparast denied any Iranian involvement in the bombings,
blaming "US and Zionist officials" for "fabricating" such claims.
Four Iranian nationals have been arrested for the February 14 Bangkok
attack. During the attack, one explosive went off in the bombers’
home, while another was thrown at a taxi that refused to take one of
the men who left the house. A third blew off the bomber legs when he
tried to throw it at police.
Thai Police believe the first bomb was a work accident that occurred
while the men were planning a terror attack against Israeli targets.
The explosions occurred one day after Israeli embassies were attacked
in India and Georgia; Israel blamed Iran for those incidents.
Thailand is seeking a fifth Iranian as a suspect in the bomb plot
allegedly targeting Israeli diplomats and issued an arrest warrant
for the man, police in Bangkok said Monday.
The suspect, 57-year-old Norouzi Shaya Ali Alkbar, stands accused of
possessing and making explosives, AFP quoted Thai Deputy Police Chief
Pansiri Prapawat as saying. He was reportedly captured on security
cameras leaving a house rented by other bomb suspects prior to an
explosion that exposed the plot. (© 1995-2011, The Jerusalem Post
