[Par-14-Bias-Falsehood] Since the truce was declared, Israel pulled troops out of parts of Gaza and the West Bank town of Bethlehem. But it refuses to hand over more towns until the Palestinian Authority disarms militant groups - something Abbas is extremely reluctant to do for fear of sparking a civil war.

SHOULD READ>-- Since the conditional, temporary ''ceasefire initiative'' was unilaterally declared by the main terrorists organizations in "unity" partnership with the PLO/PA, Israel has pulled troops out of parts of Gaza and the West Bank town of Bethlehem. "Abbas is extremely reluctant"... Previously on June 9th Abbas stated "There is absolutely no substitute for dialogue," with the terrorist "factions". Abbas again restated in Cairo on July 22nd that "Cracking down on Hamas, Jihad and the Palestinian organizations is not an option at all." No one can know what the motivation for his action, or inaction are. Especially since he never has shown that he has the courage or ability, to do more than threaten to quit. The above statement ascribes his inaction to a seemingly reasonable assessment of the situation, rather than a cynical attempt to wring as much as possible from Israel, at the least possible cost.

The Mandate for Palestine's purpose was to put into effect the Balfour Declaration. It specifically referred to "the historical connections of the Jewish people with Palestine" and to the moral validity of "reconstituting their National Home in that country." The term "reconstituting" shows recognition of the fact that Palestine had been the Jews' home. Furthermore, the British were instructed to "use their best endeavors to facilitate" Jewish immigration, to encourage settlement on the land and to "secure" the Jewish National Home. The word "Arab" does not appear in the Mandatory award.

The Mandate was formalized by the 52 governments at the League of Nations on July 24, 1922.

The last binding international legal instrument in the West Bank and Gaza was the League of Nations Mandate, which explicitly recognized the right of Jewish settlement in all territory allocated to the Jewish national home in the context of the British Mandate.

In 1946, when the League of Nations was officially dissolved, the new United Nations adopted all the articles and resolutions that the League had accepted with regard to the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine.

On what basis does Reuters define the Jewish heartland as "OCCUPIED TERRITORIES." In reality, there has never been a sovereign Arab entity called "Palestine." And prior to 1967, the West Bank and Gaza Strip were controlled by Jordan and Egypt, respectively. So on what basis can these lands legitimately be called "Palestinian."

The use of "occupied territories" denies any Israeli claim to it historic homeland. By presenting Israel as a "foreign occupier," advocates of the Palestinian cause can delegitimize the Jewish historical attachment to Israel.

The stubborn focus on settlements and "occupation" is a distraction from confronting the real source of the conflict, the refusal to accept the legitimacy of Israel as a permanent Jewish state.
